Mayancolour in Australia

Mayancolour began with an idea to spread the colours of Chiapas Mexico and to the world.

"Inspired by Mayans, made by Mexicans, brought to you by Australians"

When visiting the town of Chamula by bike, a small town near San Cristobal in the south of Mexico, we were inundated by several local children & their families selling hand woven textiles on the street. We quickly found ourselves with heavy wrists full of their hand woven bracelets. This experience was one which stuck with us and our perspective allowed us to appreciate the beauty in their work and its potential popularity in an australian marketplace.

After a few days and and a number of sleepless nights thinking about it we decided that we wanted to make a small difference in this community. We thought that the best way to help the community whilst maintaining their traditions and privacy from "poverty tourism" would be to attempt to increase the value and appreciation of their dedicated craftsmanship and bringing these textiles home to Australia where we could share the colour.

Our vision is to grow this brand 'mayancolour' and build a bridge between this small community Chamula and our country Australia. To do this we will provide a reliable income and a greater recognition to the individual artisans in the chiapas community of Chamula and give them much-deserved credit for their talent and hard work. We will also be able to share their work with our country and bring a little of their colour into our lives.
